Question:
Thanks for your reply ... it was very helpful. Now I have one more problem: the wiring harness. The module which came with my original order (CURT 56107) did not fit the module in the vehicle, so I ordered a different one (CURT 56217), which also didn’t fit. Can you advise the specific wiring harness I can use? I would send you photos showing the module in the vehicle next to the above mentioned harnesses, but I am unable to attach them to this email. Maybe in a separate email? Thanks for your help,

I would be happy to help!
For your 2007 Toyota Highlander V6 2WD you will actually need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118413 which plugs into the back of your tail lights as you can see in the included video.
The reason the two connectors on the # C56217 and # C56107 were incorrect is they are for models with the towing package, where your Highlander appears to not have the towing package.
I included a video of the # 118413 being installed on a similar 2006 Toyota Highlander for you to take a look at.
