Replacement Dometic with Furrion
Updated 04/14/2021 | Published 04/02/2021 >
Question:
I have already purchased and replaced my Dometic acs w/ 2-Furrion 15,500 BTU ACs, which they were plug n play. Im looking to upgrade to the Furrion everything, thermostat, controller, etc. I know i need the muti-zone thermo. and controller. I guess my question is what is wiring it up going to be like since Im going from Dometic to Furrion, because the Dometic thermo. is a telephone cable plug n play, and it appears none of the Furrion stuff is?

I have heard back from Rep at Furrion in regard to questions for your project. They stated that not only will you need the Replacement Multi Zone Controller for Furrion Chill RV Air Conditioner, # FACC12ZA-BL for each AC, but you will also need the Wall Thermostat, # FACW12ZA-BL for each unit or run additional wire to have a single thermostat. You will also need a new Air Distribution Box, # FACT12LA-PS, for each unit. As for the wiring question, they suggest using the wiring already installed and not pulling new through to replace and for wire connections, since there is not an industry standard but what the OEM used, any connectors that are needed for the project will need to be sourced after being identified.
He stated that the Dometic to Furrion installation AC they produce was put together with a lot of thought toward making it as easy to replace as possible so as to support the DIY type; they did do a good job of it too. But as for the project which you inquiring about they highly recommend this not be done by a DIY unless they have significant background. He stressed that this type of project is always recommended to be done by someone with experience. That being stated he did provide some helpful tips, the 6 wires that are looped together inside the AC, leave them be. They don't need to be connected to anything.
The 4 wires looped together will be an A & B wire one each Neg & Pos, these are your wires that go thermostat.
Brown wires will go to the heat strip if you choose to use, many do not.
One the most common troubleshooting questions from a project such as this is after everything is wired it will not work and the most common cause is that while the AC operates off 110 and properly connected, the controller operates off of 12V is not properly connected. He stressed that the controller 12V source must be positive constant from its own source, can not be a branch off another supply or a 110 to 12 volt conversion. Run directly to your 12 volt power source (with fuse/breaker protection).
