Greetings, I wanted to see what options are available as far as a roof rack for a Ford Explorer 2017 Platinum Edition model. I’m looking to load a 190 lb roof top tent and need something rated for 200 lbs at STATIC weight. Could you offer some advice on this? Thanks

I have a solution for you, but there are not any roof racks for your 2017 Ford Explorer that are rated for 190lbs when vehicle is in motion. I will give you a few roof rack recommendations so you are aware of your options.

If your 2017 Ford Explorer has factory raised rails running front to back then you will want to go with Inno Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 51" Long # INXB130-2 along with the necessary Feet # INXS350 and Fit Kit # IN28FR. This has the highest weight capacity available for this roof configuration which is 140lbs.

If your vehicle does not have raised rails and actually has the flush mounted rails then you can go with Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 54" Long # RRVA137B-2 along with Feet # RRRCH4 and Fit Kit # RRRCP45-BK. This has a weight capacity of 165lbs which is the highest weight capacity available for this roof configuration.

Since your tent weighs 190lbs it is not recommended to install it onto either of these roof rack setups. For a different tent option you could look into the Thule Tepui Explorer Kukenam 3 Rooftop Tent - 3 Person - 600 lbs - Haze Gray # TH8001KSK04.
