To remove a broken key from the Lock Cylinder for Thule Racks and Carriers - N181 Item # THLOCKN181, Thule recommends getting a key extraction tool from your local hardware/auto part store. Slide the extraction tool in along side of the key, the teeth from the extraction tool will grab a tooth or teeth on the key which will allow you to slide the broken piece out. They also suggest using a powder graphite to help remove any shards that may be left inside and also a silicone or white lithium grease. They do not recommend drilling the lock because there are no available replacement parts surrounding the core. If the core can be removed without damage to any of the outer components the replacement is the item listed above. To replace the key you want to use Replacement Key for Thule Racks and Carriers - N181 Item # THKEYN181.
