How To Determine Correct Upgraded Wheel and Tire Combination For Boat Trailer.

Published 12/14/2020

Question:

I have a 8500lb boat that’s on a 20 years oLd trailer. Thinking about buying 4 new tires and wheels. Mainly a saltwater boat and looking for E rated tires. Suggestions? Currently have galvanized wheels that are looking tired

I would be happy to recommend some new wheels and tires to replace your tired galvanized wheels currently on your boat trailer, but first I will need a little bit of information about your current wheels and tires.

To determine the correct replacement wheels and tires I will need to know what size and bolt pattern your current wheels are. The wheel size will be listed on the tire at the end of the tire size. For example the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15" White Spoke Wheel # AM32680 uses a 225/75R15 tire and the wheel size is 15. The included article will walk you through the steps to measure the bolt pattern of your current wheels.

The tire size is important as it will determine the overall height of the tire, which you will want to keep very close to the same as increasing the overall height can cause clearance issues with the fenders.

Once you know the wheel size, bolt pattern, and tire size you can use the attached link to all of our Load Range E wheel and tire combinations, or if you let me know that information I would be happy to recommend the best wheel and tire combinations for your trailer.

I do have a suggestion for to replace your 225/75/15 Tires on 15" 6 on 5-1/2" wheels. I recommend the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15" Hi-Spec Aluminum Wheel # AM32684 which is a Load Range E wheel and tire combination that has a maximum weight capacity of 2830lbs at 80 PSI and has a speed rating of 81 MPH. This tire and wheel combination features an aluminum wheel that measures 15" with the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern you are looking for and will come mounted, but not balanced as trailer tires are not usually balanced. We do not offer Carlisle tires, but the Kenda Karrier ST225/75R15 # AM10303 that is included in the wheel and tire combination is one of our most popular tires, and is loved by our customers with 4.8 stars from over 900 reviews. I also recommend new lug nuts # 12CLN-L which are sold individually, and Center Caps # LHCS108-SI60C which are also sold individually. I included videos for all of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
