Option For Replacing Atwood 8525-IV-DCLP Furnace

Updated 10/23/2025 | Published 09/16/2025

Question:

I have a Fleetwood Discovery motorhome with a Atwood 8525-IV-DCLP furnace. I am sure the furnace needs to be replaced. The Atwood 8525-IV-DCLP is no longer available. Do you know a direct replacement for that unit?

Hello John, thanks for reaching out. According to my research, the Atwood 8525-IV-DCLP is a 25,000 BTU furnace. We do have a 25K BTU unit from Dometic that can be used to replace this, but it would not be a direct replacement. Take a look at the following:

- Dometic RV Furnace - Propane - Automatic Pilot - 12V DC - 25,000 Btu - White Door # DMC58RR

- Dometic RV Furnace - Propane - Automatic Pilot - 12V DC - 25,000 Btu - Black Door # DMC26RR

This furnace measures 20" deep x 7" tall x 16-1/2" wide overall so please compare this to what you have now. Some modification of the cutout may be required.

Hey John, did the Dometic furnace end up working as a good replacement for your Atwood unit in the Fleetwood Discovery? It’d be great to hear if the size and modifications matched up well. Your update could make it easier for others with the same furnace setup.

@JesseM As the replacement Dometic furnace is not able to re-use the old Atwood cover and the current cover has three color painted graphics to blend in with the side graphics it will not work for me. I am sure the furnace specs will fit the inside space but may have to modify the hole somewhat. The biggest problem is to have the replacement cover painted to match the graphics on the coach is more expensive than the entire furnace. However, I do apricate all your help in finding a replacement. My recommendation to the manufactures is when furnace and water heaters are replaced with a new model it would be helpful to assure that the covers are compatible with the old units as almost all motorhomes manufactured in the last 20 years have expensive painted graphics included on the covers.

@JohnK Ok thanks for sharing I definitely understand what you mean about the cover because all of the furnace or water heater covers we well are just generic white or black. I wish more manufacturers would take your recommendation to heart. Do feel free to come back anytime you need anything!
