Question:

I wanted to confirm the max load rating for the bars, https://www.etrailer.com/p-Y01157.html Is it 500lb each bar making it a 1000lb when using 2 bars or is it 500lb when using both making it only 250lb each bar? I see the single bar, https://www.etrailer.com/Roof-Rack/Yakima/YA34FR.htm, listed showing 500lbs so Im a bit confused.

The Yakima HD Crossbar Set, part # Y01157, have a weight capacity of 500 lbs in conjunction (i.e. the two of them together can hold 500 lbs).

The reason the single bar, part # YA34FR, states that its weight capacity is 500 lbs because these bars are intended to be used as a set (either with the same one or with another HD bar of a different length).

Even with just the 500 lbs, this number is more than likely much higher than you can put on the top of your vehicle. Though these crossbars (and many others) can handle several hundred pounds, the majority of roofs cannot, making the high rating excessive. Be sure to check your vehicle's manual to find out how much weight can be carried on the roof.
