Brake Controller for 2017 BMW X5 With Stealth Hitches Trailer Hitch

Question:

Can you tell me where I connect the controller? Do I have to run the wiring to the back of the vehicle? I do not know where the wiring is under the dash. The Stealth 7 way connector mounts vertically. If you plug in a Curt Echo controller, wouldnt it reduce ground clearance too much? Can the Stealth connector be mounted horizontally or is there a better way to use the Curt Echo controller with this hitch?

Let's start with the Curt Echo Brake Controller # C51180 and the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver with Towing Kit # SH85VR that fits your 2017 BMW X5. Like you mentioned, the 7-way does install vertically, and since there's no other way to mount it, I do not recommend the Echo with this hitch and wiring because it would be too close to the ground.

Instead, a much better option is the other one you asked about, the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR.

Once you have installed the 7-way from the Stealth, you do need to connect the blue wire by extending it to the brake controller, and for this I recommend the Wiring Kit # 5506.
