Does the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller Have to Be Facing the Direction of Travel?

Curt wireless controller, 2015 toyota hignlander. The 7 pin socket was installed below the hitch and it was soon knocked off. . Can the curt wireless be mounted in any position? like sideways or vertical ? So I could mount it under the vehicle? or sideways on the hitch?

Yes, it can. The Curt Echo item # C51180 can be installed in any direction and will still be able to sense when your Highlander is braking to send a signal back to the trailer brakes.
To keep your 7-way from being knocked off again, I recommend the Curt Easy Mount Bracket for 7-Way Trailer Connectors item # C58000. This bracket bolts to your Highlander's 2" receiver. It will put your 7-way connector next to the safety chain loops.
