Will The Thule OutWay 2 Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Damage the Rear Glass of a 2011 Kia Soul

Updated 06/09/2025 | Published 10/03/2011

Question:

You say the The ThuleOutWay 2 Bike Trunk Mounted Bike Rack, part # TH45JV will fit my Kia Soul. Does the bike rack rest on the back window? If it does, is that a danger to my glass?

Expert Reply:

Yes, this Thule OutWay 2 Bike Carrier # TH45JV is confirmed fit for your 2011 Kia Soul. The top portion of the bike rack will rest on the back glass of your vehicle, but it will not damage the glass of your rear windshield. Most of the pressure from the rack will be on the lower arms of the rack due to gravity.

We have never had any issues with the back glass being damaged on a trunk mounted bike rack, and the # TH45JV is no exception to that.

If you plan on carrying women's or alternative framed bikes you may be interested in purchasing a Thule Bike Adapter # TH982XT. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also.

I tried to fit an Outway on my Hyundai Kona, but the pads don’t reach up to my rear window glass. They want to rest on the metal just below it. Is that a problem?

@DougS I am not sure what year Kona you have but in 2024 Thule doesn't have any trunk racks that fit your vehicle. Instead we had chance to install the Saris Bones EX part # SA803 and we found it fit and worked great.
