So it sounds like you need a full set up for towing with your 2000 Ford Excursion, which includes a trailer hitch, wiring harness, adjustable ball mount and weight distribution system, as I assume you do not have the factory tow package. We have all of that for you, and I'll list the parts you need.
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C14011
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118344
- Rapid Hitch Adjustable Steel Ball Mount # AM3461 (Maximum 4" rise or drop)
- Flash E Series Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w Chrome Balls # FA42-00-2800 (Max 9" rise or 8" drop)
- InfininteRule Trailer Hitch Lock and Adjustment Pin Lock Set # 34061405-D
In regards to weight distribution, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Ford Excursion.
The tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the etrailer Scale # e99044. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
For example, if your TTW was 700 lbs you would want the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0800, which is for TTW between 400 lbs and 800 lbs. If you let me know what your TTW is I would be happy to make a recommendation for you so you can get the correct system.
Otherwise, I have added a link to our entire selection of weight distribution systems as well as links to video reviews and instructions of the recommended products for your 2000 Ford Excursion.
