This flex, as shown in your photo, is typical as the hitch is made with mild steel to flex with the vehicle over potholes and heavy terrain. You did a good job bending the hitch back. Here are some other tips about flex:

After two years, the hitch only has marginal additional rust, although the vehicle was driven fewer winter miles during this past year. Still a solid purchase.

Loving it. Have used this extensively. Was worried about rusting as I use a few different ball sizes and remove the pin and hitch often. No rust has shown up and the finish is holding up amazing. Still black and not faded at all from UV exposure. Very happy with this hitch

You mentioned that the hardware was wrong and did not fit. I wanted to ask you what size hardware did you receive? Did it match the hardware listed in the manual? Did you clean out the bolt holes with a wire brush?
