Why Cant I Use a Curt C13331 on my 2018 Audi SQ5 When It Fits the 2018 Audi Q5
Updated 06/02/2020 | Published 05/29/2020 >
Question:
Im interested in the Eco hitch because it fits SQ5. I was going to buy a Curt, but it doesnt fit the SQ5. What is different between the fitment of Q5 and SQ5? Thanks,

The reason the Curt # C13331 does not fit on the Audi SQ5 is because of issues with the fascia being different between the Q5 and SQ5; other manufacturers have been able to make their hitches compatible on both, but Curt was not able to address this in their manufacturing. The issue actually stems from what is behind the bumper and under the fascia, and the differences between the Q5 and SQ5 models.
For that reason, you will need to go with something like the EcoHitch # 306-X7397, which is designed to work on your 2018 Audi SQ5. There will still be some trimming required on the fascia but it's not enough to interfere with the fitment of the hitch.
If you're going to be towing, you'll also need a wiring harness, ball mount and hitch ball. For the wiring I recommend going with the Tekonsha ZCI 4 Pole Flat Kit # 119250KIT since it does not require any cutting of wires and will be the easiest to install. The converter boxes are also extremely reliable in these, which will help eliminate any potential feedback issues into the sensitive electronics systems that are on Audi's. For a ball mount and hitch ball I recommend using the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 since it comes with 2 ball mounts and hitch balls that allow you to cover a few different trailer setups you might encounter, as well as a hitch pin, clips and carrying bag for storage.
I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to have a look at, as well.
