how do i determine correct tandem axle hanger length

Helpful Expert Reply:
When choosing hangers for your trailer you want to account for 1-1/2" of deflection when the leaf springs are maxed out, and then 3" above your tires beyond that point for max bump clearance. Dexter Axle states that for the best suspension performance you need to allow 2-1/2" of clearance above the top of the axle to the bottom of your trailer frame, and to use bump stops if the clearance is above 2-1/2".
Just to offer a little more clarity, all of these ratings and dimension changes that you want to account for are the difference from your trailer being unloaded to loaded. All of the dimensions of our suspension products assume the trailer is unloaded.
