Question:

Hi Jon! I like the cover to protect all my tools. I’m a project manager for a general contractor so it help to protect from the weather and to keep them safe. For the ladder rack, it would be for hauling wood, doors, ladders etc, but also to transport my kayaks and canoe. Some recommendations for a setup would be great!

While we do have tonneau cover and ladder rack options for your 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR5, the current tonneau cover that you have on your pickup doesn't leave any room for a ladder rack to be installed. The only kind of overhead hauling option that is compatible with your tonneau is a roof rack.

If you're willing to part with your tonneau cover I can make some recommendations for you though. Just let me know what the main purpose is of the ladder rack (whether you plan on using it for utility work, recreational activities, or both) and then what you'd like out of the tonneau cover and I'd be more than happy to recommend a setup for you.

Since you have the deck rail system it actually looks like the only full-on tonneau cover and ladder rack combination that works on your '17 Tacoma is the RetraxONE XR along with the Yakima OverHaul HD ladder rack. I recommend going with the RetraxONE XR # RTT-60851 for a 5' bed or part # RTT-60852 for a 6' bed because you get the trax rails that you need on one of the more cost-effective covers from Retrax. The advantage of the RetraxONE XR is that it slides as opposed to folding and it is lockable in any position so you can be confident that your tools will be protected when this is shut and locked along with your tailgate. The OverHaul HD # Y01151-5855 then comes with adapters that fit the ladder rack to the trax rails. This ladder rack is not only adjustable along those trax rails, but it also features height adjustment to accommodate different load lengths. We do have other options that would work but it's basically putting a roof rack over the rails of your bed and so they likely wouldn't be able to accommodate wood or ladders very well.
