The trailer hitches that fit your 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 like our etrailer.com hitch part # E98849 fit a really wide range of trucks. Basically GMC Sierra 1500 or Chevy Silverado 1500 from 1999 through 2013 plus the 1999 through 2004 2500LD trucks from GMC and Chevy.
For the price of a new one like the # E98849 and the peace of mind knowing the hitch is brand new and not rusting or otherwise compromised a new hitch would seem like the best and safest choice!
