Can A-Frame Coupler Fit Old Airstream Trailer

Updated 06/05/2026 | Published 03/24/2023

Question:

I have a vintage 1968, 31, sovereign landyatch airstream trailer. The coupler is mounted or welded to the underneath frame. The latching/ball locking mechanism was damaged beyond repair The coupler, however, is in good condition. Will this underslung coupler fit this old airstream since bit appears there are no repair kit for this makes. TY for your time and recommendations.

So long as your Airstream trailer has an A-frame, then yes, you can use the A-Frame Trailer Coupler - Underslung # CA-5335-B.

There is no way for us to know what couplers fit any specific trailer, but so long as you have an A-frame then there won't be an issue with this one.

I know you make an adjustable height coupler adapter for trailers. Because I have one that lowers my coupler to 13" off the ground with my ALUMA 8216 car hauler. Is there also a way to have a. adjustable height coupler adapter for a smaller Airstream travel trailer?

@MarkY You can have an adjustable trailer coupler welded onto your Airstream's trailer tongue so that you can raise or lower the trailer to work with your tow vehicle's height. To get the right adjustable channel coupler for you, you'll need to select one that can handle the weight of your trailer and fits your ball mount (whether it's a 2 5/16" ball or 2" ball). There are 5 position and 3 position adjustable trailer couplers so you can choose which one you think would work best for how much drop/rise you need. I've linked a 5 position and 3 position adjustable channel trailer coupler as an example for you.

@MarkY We don't have any information as to what will specifically fit an Airstream trailer since their frames/tongues vary between models. Most Airstream travel trailers have an A-frame tongue, if that's the case for what you have, you can use the Lock N Roll 50 degree A-frame Coupler w/Jack Hole part # LR76VR. It can be bolted on by using the existing vertical holes (17/32" diameter) to install bolts through the trailer tongue where possible. You can also drill additional horizontal holes for support as needed.
