With a 4,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and a 400 lbs tongue weight, this Curt hitch gives you the strength to tow small campers, boats, or utility trailers with confidence. I ordered the "visible" Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2003 Mazda B2300 (2003 Ford Ranger Clone). I had read elsewhere that some people may have had a problem with the Curt "hidden" receivers getting in the way of the spare tire and I really don't mind the visible aspect of the receiver at all and I figured this would clear the spare tire easily, which it does. It fits the 2003 Mazda perfect and I didn't have to drill any holes. I installed it by myself so in the course of trying to figure out the best way to get it bolted on first I unwound the spare tire to get it out of the way. No big deal there. It became apparent that the weight of the hitch receiver in addition to the bumper itself was going to be to much to for me to hold up at the same time while I got the nus screwed onto the frame bolts so I first removed the bumper mount brackets completely and then bolted the hitch receiver and bumper bracket to the frame and torqued that down to 110 ft/lbs and then bolted the bumper to the bumper brackets. The whole installation took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Half of which was just figuring and fiddlin. Shipping time was good. I received the it 3 days past the order date. All around happy with the new solid hitch receiver. The step bumper tongue load capacity on these vehicles are weak to say the least. This frame mounted hitch receiver solved that problem.
Quality unit, nicely finished. Great clear directions, simple installation, took less than 30 minutes, and a much better alternative than trying to pull a trailer off of a bumper hitch. This is my third (maybe fourth?) hitch install using components from etrailer. Many thanks!
I installed this on the front of my 2001 Ranger for using with a Snowbear snowplow. It has worked well for that, but also turned the truck into an invaluable trailer mule. I can now push trailers around when I need to rather than trying to back them into place. If you don't know what I mean, put one of these on the front of your truck and hook a trailer up--you'll see very quickly how handy it is.
Great hitch. Solid and compact. The hitch was slightly bent on arrival. Could have happened during shipping. I used a bottle jack and some blocks to spread the forward arm. Toughest part was drilling two holes in the pickup frame.

Exact fit. The difference from a bumper mounted ball to a frame mounted hitch is amazing. No more bounce, solid ride, and sometimes forget the loaded trailer is there. Allows me to adjust the height, and now my trailer rides flat and level. This is not a paid review, I am a scrapper and I haul tons of heavy metal all week long. You can use any part of this. I believe in word of mouth advertising.

I got this for my 2005 Ford Ranger. It's just like the hitch they used to put on Rangers as standard equipment. Easy to install once you drop the spare tire. The spare will go back up just fine once you are done. It even fit with an aftermarket dual exhaust system.

Still have the truck hitch is still working fine. I use it to tow a small 4x10 feet utility trailer.
Excellent receiver, easy to install even with having to drill two holes. Only reason I gave a less than excellent review is due to the bolts provided. I would have liked the bolts to be of a higher grade and better manufacture. Bolts made in the USA would have suited me better although the ones provided are of good enough quality for the majority of installations. It only took me about an hour to install the hitch on my 1991 ford ranger and it looks good.

one year later it is working well.
Very nice , heavy duty hitch fit my truck perfectly - did not even have to do any drilling . Rigged up a carrier on my Jack and braced my bumper with 2 - 2 ' stepladders, pulled old bolts and lifted hitch into place and bolted on , piece of cake one man operation.

Having installed more than a dozen trailer hitches throughout my life I can say that this was the easiest to install that I have done! Perfect fit, easy to attach with no issues. The hardest part was removing the J-bolt from the frame, and that wasn't that difficult really. I wish all of the hitches I have installed in the past were this easy! Big plus was how fast I got it, a day earlier that expected.

Still working great. Use it almost everyday. Bolts have never needed tightening and finish is still good with no rust or discoloration. Very pleased.
Very fast shipping comparable to (another site). Their kit for not only this hitch but also a different hitch for another brand of truck I got from them bolted on easily with the included instructions and hardware.
I run a pool cleaning business and needed this hitches to mount cart style pool vacuums too and both are holding up great with the constant use and chemical exposure! Thank you!!

I watched videos on [etrailer] YouTube ahead of time and it was a breeze to install. 2 people would be the easy way but I used a floor jack and did it myself.
Fast shipping. My order was for the curt 4000 pound rated square tube trailer hitch and Curt plug in wiring harness kit for my 97 Ford ranger had to drill a couple of holes for the hitch to fit the frame but that was expected.
As described and fit my vehicle. The first one sent was bent, but the return and reorder process was easy and fast.
Hitch arrived in 3 days. Directions very clear. One hour start to finish as I did it alone with the help of the truck bottle jack. Much faster if 2 people. Perfect fit and spare tire cranks right back into place.
Excellent fit for my 1997 Ford Ranger (6' bed 4cyl). Package arrived in TWO days. Received hitch at 1300hrs and had it installed within 2 hrs! ... and I had to drill the two holes in the frame as mine didn't have the pre-drilled holes. easy-peasy. Bought another brand drom etrailer several years ago for my 2010 Subaru Forrester and it was almost as easy as thisd install. happy camper.

The hitch installed without a hitch. It took me alone, less than 45 minutes to get it on. Im very happy with my purchase the shipping time and etrailer as a whole. I'm only towing a 10 foot single axel but the stock bumper hitch was already bending my bumper. The new hitch seems very sturdy and will handle my small trailer just fine.
This hitch fits my 96 Ford Ranger quite well. As per the instructions, I had to drill two holes in the frame. It fit and it works. I use it quite often to pull a 5 x 10 ft trailer and large zero turn mower.

Hitch fit my 2003 Ranger perfectly. I even had the additional holes from the factory so install was very easy.
This has been a great add to my 2003 Ford Ranger. I added this at the same time I put on a new rear bumper, and the truck rear is a lot more appealing and usable. Heavy duty hitch receiver, maybe too much for this old Ranger. Very satisfied.

Adding this hitch to my Ford Ranger when I had to replace the rear bumper was a smart move. Very solid, so much easier to deal with pulling a trailer by plugging in a hitch. I certainly did not want to rip off the new bumper! Thanks for a solid product.
