Question:
I have a camper with a Lippert axle. The trailer came with a 3500 pound axle but I had tire wear issues and Lippert gave me a 4400 pound axle which took care of the tire wear issue. I want to put on new springs and want to move up to the 4000 pound springs. The trailer is a single axle trailer. With the trailer setting on the ground, the current springs are 26 inches center to center of the bolts. I read in one of your answers not to get a 26 inch spring in this case but to go with a shorter one. I assume if I jack up the trailer I could get the correct measurement. If I do that, should I just go with what I find once I jack up one side? Also, if I want t replace the eye bolts, what should I go with?

Expert Reply:
Correct, the loaded and unloaded length for a leaf spring will be different. In order to choose the correct replacement you will need to remove all weight from one side of the trailer and then measure the eye to eye spacing of that leaf spring. The new leaf spring you choose should then be very close to this but it can also be a bit shorter as leaf springs will flatten out over time as they wear.
The most likely replacement we have for you is part # e57SR which measures 25-1/4" long. Then for replacement eye bolts you can use part # 166081 for standard or part # 126B2 for wet.
