Question:
Hi, I have a 2012 ram 3500, bags on the back only, I now know about the 40lb to 1 psi, loaded, what about unloaded? just to level out the vehicle or a smoother ride. what do you think would be the min-max psi? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
The minimum air pressure to leave in an Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 like part # AL57297 for a 2WD or part # AL57295 for a 4WD 2012 Ram 3500 is 5 psi. This is just to ensure that the bags don't damage themselves if you were to drive over rough terrain.
When it comes to the amount of psi when you don't have anything loaded in your truck bed that really just depends on the user. There really is no right or wrong answer and it just boils down to what you think feels like a smoother ride. This is the answer we have received from Air Lift any time we have asked about unloaded psi. Just make sure you have a minimum of 5 psi and you are good to go!
If you don't already have an air compressor installed on your Ram then I do recommend adding one so that you can easily and actively monitor the pressure in your air bags. Another benefit to adding an air compressor kit is having the ability to adjust your air bags on the go instead of having to hunt down a compressor. I recommend the Air Lift WirelessAIR # AL74000 because it has a wireless remote control which allows you to monitor and adjust your air bags from inside or outside the cab of your pickup plus it has dual functions so you can adjust your air bags independently from another for uneven loads in your bed. Attached is a review video for you to reference.
