Can You Retrofit a 2010 Toyota Highlander to Have Tow Package Increased Towing Capacity?

Question:
Hello, I own a used 2010 Toyota Highlander Base, V6, 2WD VIN: 5TDZK3EH8A******* The vehicle has a Class III hitch installed, but based on VIN search at toyota.com it does NOT have a factory-installed tow package. The manual indicates a 2000 lb tow limit for this vehicle w/o tow package, and a 5000 lb tow limit with tow package. I would like to pull a ~3,500 lb trailer with this vehicle. THE QUESTION: what are my options to retrofit my vehicle to allow safe towing of a 2,000 lb / up to 5,000 lb trailer? Thank you!

Thanks for the information. Based on your VIN you are only able to tow 2,000 lbs according to the manufacturer. There isn't a way to increase this rating the manufacturer gives because it is based on all the components of the vehicle.
Obviously the class III hitch will have an independent rating and you can add the wiring, even a transmission cooler like a tow package would normally come with but I can't promise you will safely be able to tow the 3,500 lb trailer.
Based on your VIN that I changed to protect, you have the 3.5L engine. If you want to add a transmission cooler, I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13503 which will help your transmission to run cooler and prolong its life especially when towing.
