Can Trailer Brakes be Installed on Trailer with 10 inch Wheels

Updated 03/13/2019 | Published 03/12/2019

Question:

Hello there I have a 6foot x 10foot tandem axle utility trailer equipped with 10inch Americana AM20041 4 on 4 wheels and would like to upgrade it with brakes. Is there any options available to install, preferably electric brakes on this trailer with this size of wheel? Thanks.

7 inch brake assemblies like the etrailer pair part # AKEBRK-2 can fit behind a 10 inch wheel like the part # AM20041 that you have currently.

We do have to first make sure to pick out the correct hub/drums for your current spindles so that you can install the assemblies. Basically that boils down to determining the spindles you have now and going from there. You can do this by measuring the spindle diameters or by getting the bearing numbers out of the current hubs. I attached a link to a help article that will walk you through the entire process.

Since you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern the only hope is that the hub/drum part # 8-173-16UC3-EZ fits. If your bearings are L44649 or the spindle dimensions are 1.063 inch this would be the way to go.
