Question:
7 X 1 3/4 hydraulic brake conversion to 7 x 1 1/4 electric brakes. We have a 1996 Jayco trailer with 7 inch brakes on a dexter axle we would like to covert from hydraulic to electric. They are 4 stud drums. Would the 7 inch x 1 1/2 inch brakes be compatible?

Yes, the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,000 lbs # 23-47-48 will absolutely work as a replacement for the Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 2,500 lbs # 23-398-399. The electric brakes measure 7" diameter x 1-1/4" wide so they are narrower than the 7" diameter x 1-3/4" wide hydraulic drum brakes, meaning they will fit in the drum; they also use the same 4-bolt mounting flange so you are set!
Along with the brake assemblies you also need to wire your trailer for use with electric brakes, and need a breakaway kit, the Tekonsha Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger # 50-85-313, a working 7-way on your tow vehicle and a brake controller such as the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523 or Curt Echo # C51180.
