Question:
Before I buy this expensive tool I really want to know if it acts the same as plugging a trailer into the truck. Ive had so called emulatorsinch in the past not provide enough resistance to get the factory integrated trailer brake control modules in my 2014, 2016 and 2018 Dodge Rams 3500 and 5500s to actually think a trailer is connected. When that happens, they dont activate and I cant get a voltage/amp reading at the plug. I know these work great with reading output from aftermarket brake controllers. Just leery that it will work with the new integrated trailer brake control modules that come stock in just about every truck these days.

Current Monitor # 6565 is the real deal. It was designed for use in shops. We use a version of it without the 7-Way for testing all sorts of things around here and I don't see any reason why it would not work with a factory integrated brake controller whether it by a Ram, Chevy, or Ford, or any import that might have one.
The brake controller will need to be set to deliver greater than 10 volts. The current must be greater than 10 amps for 2 braking axles or 16 amps for 3 braking axles. If a brake controller cannot produce the proper amount of voltage or current then presumably it would not work. You can test the output on your truck ahead of time with a meter such as # PT89ZR if you don't already have one to make sure it is putting out the required amount of power.
We also have tester # 8010 which is designed to test the trailer side wiring if you are interested in it. I have linked a video review of it for you.
