Hey everybody, Ryan here at trailer. Today on our 2021 Ford Ranger we're gonna be checking out and showing you how to install the RoadMaster six way round connector plug. So just to kind of give you guys an idea on what your connector plug will look like when you're not using it, whenever you're just kind of cruising around town, you can see it's gonna do a pretty good job of blending in. Thankfully the Ranger has a lot of different spots where we can mount this up and it's kind of dark in this area. So with the plug being black in color it does do a great job just kind of, blending in to the front of your Ranger so it don't stick out too bad. With that said, when you're not using it it does have a spring loaded cap and it's pretty tight actually.
And so that's going to have a seal on the bottom and sit up nice and tight against a connector plug itself and that's what's gonna help keep out any dirt, debris, moisture and things like that, which are in my opinion the number one demise for these plugs is corrosion. So with this cap on there that should really help that out. So whenever you are ready to use it and you hook up your flat tow components all you have left is your wiring. The connector plug is going to accept wires like this with the six way round. And when you plug these in what's nice is that connector plug is super tight, not loose and it really doesn't loosen up over time.
You see a ton of these come into the shop and they pretty much stay tight. So gives you a little confidence knowing hey it's not gonna wiggle around then my lights aren't gonna work when I'm driving down the road. With that said, I can think of a few different reasons why you would need just a connector plug. One of them being, it ended up getting damaged, maybe a rock flew up here, something and busted it or you could potentially over tighten the screws that hold it and then crack it or something like that. Or if you have an old kit that you're transferring over to a newer vehicle and just wanna be on the safe side, have a new connection up here.
Couple of other reasons, some kits, some wiring kits actually don't come with the connector plug. So you can pick this one up to try to complete the package. I've seen other kits that do have the connector plug and they're just kinda chinchy, so you could upgrade to a better one. Like I said, we have a ton of experience with these plugs in particular almost every flat tow set up that we do we end up using this. So they're reliable and we know they work out well.
So at the end of the day, a great replacement or even upgrade to your tow bar wiring setup. Now, as far as getting this hooked up super straight forward, everything is labeled and so you really can't, you really can't hook it up wrong. With that said why don't we go ahead pull into the garage and put it on together now. To get the connector plug hooked up we're gonna here at the front and we're gonna be hooking it up to our existing diode wiring here. I'm gonna set the plug aside for now kind of get everything else ready. You gotta take the rubber plug or the rubber dust cover rather off the connector plug, slide that over your wires kind of just push that back out of the way for now. And then we need to strip each individual wire back a little bit. You can then grab the connector plug. All right and if you look at the back of it we're gonna have several terminals. We're gonna be using four them and they are labeled. So this one here is labeled TM for taillight, brown wire will go to it. This one here is labeled GD for ground, so the white wire will go to it. We have LT for left turn, so the yellow wire there. RT for right turn, so the, green wire will go to it. And something I wanna mention if you happen to have a charge on it or something like that the majority of the time you'll hook that to the center, if that's your scenario. But that said, the other way these are gonna work is you're just gonna back the set screws out so you can use a small Phillips screwdriver run these out. I try not to take them out completely cause they being so small, they're easy to lose and even if you do find it they're kind of tricky to get started back in there again. So just back it out a little ways. And what's gonna happen is we can then hook each wire to the corresponding terminal. So we'll start with this one, which is TM for tail, put the brown wire in it. Kind of hold it in place and then tighten down that set screw. So I do that same thing for each individual wire. So this is what the wires look like when they're all hooked up. And what you can do is apply some dielectric grease to the terminals to help prevent any corrosion. I wait until the very end to do that, once I test it and make sure everything is working and our flat tow set up is complete that way if you have to make changes we don't have to deal with all that grease. So for the time being we'll just take our cover there slide that back over it. And then I'm gonna attach it to this bracket. It just needs a couple of screws. And then once we have it all secure, what we're able to do is we'll plug our wiring in, test it out and make sure all of our connections are hooked up properly and everything is functioning. So I went ahead plugged in to our test box. Now we can check all of our signals, try our tail lights, our left turn, our right turn, and our brake lights. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the RoadMaster six way round connector plug on our 2021 Ford Ranger..
Six-Wire Round ReceptaclePlan on using the receptacle to replace a broken one on my toed vehicle (04 Honda CRV). It should operate well. This is the third replacement. Suggest the plastic be reenforced to reduce the instance of breakage.
Ordering from etrailer was easy and shipping was quick. The order was on receptacle short but I contacted etrailer via email and the other part was shipped within hours. Great costumer service.
Note to self: Always push brake pedal firmly before releasing parking brake. especially when Jeep is slightly uphill from Blue Ox tow bar. :-) This was a very quick fix, (unfortunately not quick enough, the wife saw me before I could hide it) maybe took 10 minutes total. A socket set and a small phillips screwdriver are all I needed for this replacement.
Works, kind of wish it could have been placed in a different location
Damaged the original one driving into a snow bank. The replacement was easy to install and good as new.
This was my original, but the pins got pushed out the back, so I tried another popular brand, only to find the all-metal assembly put the possibility of the wires shorting out within the "risky" category, so I went back to the non-metallic part, which won't "short" out and cause a problem. Fingers & toes.
Towing Connections DON'T HAVE TO BE UGLY! (see photo)
I bought a new 2019 4x4 Jeep Cherokee Limited with the Active Drive II transmission. It included the Technology Group option with Adaptive Cruise Control, etc. I then bought the corresponding Roadmaster baseplate (521452-4) to couple with our old Falcon All-Terrain towbar from a previous Jeep.
The 6-PIN SOCKET (Roadmaster 910030-7) was mounted on the two stems that stick out from the baseplate's main receiver brace. However, I bent, angled, and shortened both stems so the socket would sit flush along the curved grill's centerline. I also drilled the holes deeper into the ends of the two stems so I could use longer (1"), #10, self-drilling screws. The screw heads were painted black.
All the WIRES were placed inside black, heat-shrink tubing and tucked out-of-sight using zip ties.
Both products worked great and Jill was wonderful to do business with. Very helpful, considerate, and polite.
This is a piece of junk….one of the male plugs was broken and I checked the current on the others and no current passed through from one side of the plug to the other. Complete Junk….do not buy this product. I ended up going to [store] and getting a curt plug that worked just fine.

I threw this away….it is junk. I went to a rv store to buy one that worked.
Received my package within days of ordering and I went back to the website for the video to install it! Thank you for the quick response and having videos available so that I could use, the video showed a much more professional appearance than how it had been done. I’ve enclosed a picture!

So far it’s been working great!
Easy to hook up but the identifying marks were kinda hard to see so we printed it out from the website.
Easy to use.great customer service
Great fit, easy install, and great value for the money..
It is mounted on the bull bar of my 2019 JLU Wrangler. The umbilical has never disconnected while underway. Very good quality.
I purchased this along with the 477-1 base plate. Excellent products and base plate was vehicle specific. Bolted on with very little effort. Bolted into the main frame of my 2009 Ford Ranger FX4 pickup truck without any modifications. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
Functions as expected.
Great customer service.
worked with the wiring harness
Easy install. Goes well w my black bump er.

Still working great 1 year later!
After a year this connector is still working fine. No complaints.
etrailer had what I wanted and was in stock. Also had a video on how to install. Fast shipping, very satisfied.
E trailer is the best. I was having trouble finding what I was looking for on line, so I called. She was able to send me a link and I had the part ordered in under 10 minutes.
Bona Fide Roadmaster connector... Not a Counterfiet or knock-off
Did the job!!!
I ordered and paid for a roadmaster 6 pin connector and was sent a made in China piece of junk. Etrailer has attempted to send the correct connector 2 additional times and have failed! Once sending the bracket I ordered and not the connector and then sending yet another China made piece of junk!!

I checked with Roadmaster and also our stock. The connector design has changed and no longer has the Roadmaster logo on it. We are working to update the pictures that we have on our site.
Works as advertised.
