Is a Load Range D Trailer Tire Better for Long Trips than a Load Range C of the Same Size

I have a tear camper on a utility trailer frame, with 5.30-12 class C tires. Im about to head on a 3K mile trip and want to make sure I have the best tire. Is a class D tire in the same size a better option and why or why not?

Going with a higher load range within the same tire size has some benefits. It will have a higher ply rating which means the tire will be stronger. Keep in mind though that the higher capacity does not increase the capacity of the trailer.
The issue you may run into though is with the wheels. If your wheels have a psi rating that is lower than what the tires are rated for then you can end up with leaks or damage though damage isn't as likely in the short term.
The psi rating for a 5.30-12 load range C tire such as # TTWSF53012C is 80 psi. For a load range D in the same size, such as # AM10068, the psi rating is 105 psi. You will likely need to go with higher capacity valve stems too such as # AM20906.
To get the most life out of your trailer tires make sure they are always inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. Trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than vehicle tires and if under inflated that thicker sidewall can generate excessive heat and lead to failure.
Also be sure to check the tire for a speed rating. If no speed rating is given then the maximum speed is going to be 65 miles an hour. Going over the speed rating will also generate more heat. And for tires heat is the number one enemy.
