When installing a brake controller in your 2008 GMC Sierra the red wire on the vehicle connects to the black wire on the controller. The dark blue wire on the vehicle connects to the blue wire on the controller. The light blue or orange wire on the vehicle connects to the red wire on the controller and the white wire on the vehicle connects to the white wire on the controller.
The wire you'll use for the red wire of the controller will either be orange or light blue. You can test it with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to verify that it only has 12 volts when the brakes are applied. Check out the install help article I attached as well.
