How to Distinguish Hub-Piloted Wheel from Stud-Piloted Dual RV Wheel
Updated 06/22/2018 | Published 06/20/2018 >
Question:
I am looking for a spare rim for a 1993 Winnebago Warrior. It takes a dual rim, 8 bolt, 6 1/2inch center, but the hub diameter appears to be approximately 4.5. It is definitely smaller than 4.77 or 4.88inch that you list on your site for dual wheels. Does someone make one of these with a smaller hub diameter?

Expert Reply:
The size of pilot hole in a wheel matters if the wheel is a hub-centric type, but not if it is a stud-piloted wheel that centers using the wheel studs. If you remove your outer wheel and see a threaded part like # 6-69-2 with wrench flats then you have a stud-piloted wheel and the pilot hole diameter being larger does not matter. But if you see just standard threaded studs without the wrench flats then you have a hub-piloted wheel and the pilot hole size needs to match.
You can see all of our 8-on-6-1/2 wheels on the linked page. Several dual wheels are among these.
