Adding LED Clearance Lights to a ShoreLandr Trailer

Published 05/18/2018

Question:

I have a shorelander trailer with side marker lights. I want to rewire and repalce with LED. My question is, how to I connect the side marker lights to the system? I plan on pulling new wire to the brake lights by pulling through using the old wire. How do I connect the marker lights since they are inside the frame tube? I would prefer to keep the wires inside. Do the marker light wires connect at the front harness? Is there a video that you are aware of for this? I have found for wiring outside of the frame and inside, but nothing for the marker lights. Thanks,

To connect your LED clearance lights, like the Optronics # MCL13A2B, you can either find locations in your frame to access the running light circuit or you could route some wire from your 4-Way connector along the frame back to your running lights, whichever is easier. Either way you would need 16 Gauge Wire # 16-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05744-10.

The typical wire color on trailers for the running light circuit is brown, but since this isn't something that is required by law the wire color for your application could be very different. I recommend using a circuit tester # PTW2992 to verify which circuit is your running lights.

Be sure that you don't add more lights than what is currently on that circuit to avoid overloading it and connect your grounds to a clean, bare metal surface to keep from causing wiring problems.

Attached is an installation video of the clearance light that I mentioned.
