Can Blue Ox SwayPro Hitch Shank And Ball Mount Head Be Used For Towing Without The Bars Installed
Updated 04/12/2018 | Published 04/11/2018 >
Question:
Can I use a Blue Ox Swaypro hitch shank and ball mount head for conventional towing without the bars installed?

Expert Reply:
The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control, Item # BXW1506, needs the trunnion spring bars installed to be effective. The system uses all of the components, including the bars, to prevent sway while balancing your trailer's load which creates a more level and smoother ride.
You certainly can tow without the bars in place and just use the hitch as a big ball mount but you will not receive the full benefit of the system when doing so.
The Blue Ox SwayPro is designed to work with and fit 2 inch hitches and offers up to a 13 inch rise or a 7 inch drop. It has a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs and a gross towing weight capacity of 15,000 lbs.
