For your wife's 2005 Dodge Dakota, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75251 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. As long as you do not have a factory trailer hitch then this option will work well for you.
I have attached an install video of this hitch as well as a photo of what it will look like once installed. The install video is on the same generation Dodge Dakota so it will be the same as your 2005. If you can tell me what you will be using the hitch for I would be glad to make some additional recommendations. The price of the hitch can be found on the product page.
