Features to know about

Get More Out of Every Haul: Class III Strength with 2" Receiver

This hitch gives you a solid setup for real-world towing. With a maximum gross trailer weight of 5,000 lbs and up to 5,500 lbs when used with weight distribution, it has the strength for light to moderate trailers, small campers, or loaded utility hauls. The 500 lb tongue weight rating gives it enough capacity for bike racks or cargo carriers without flex or sway. The 2" x 2" receiver opening works with the most common accessories, so your existing ball mounts, carriers, or racks can be put right to use.

Built to Last: Fully Welded Steel and Protective Powder Coat

Strength and corrosion resistance go hand in hand here. The hitch is fully welded for durability and precision fitment, with robotic welding that keeps everything aligned and solid. A gloss black powder coat over a protective base coat helps prevent rust even after years of exposure. It’s the kind of finish that not only looks clean but holds up when you’re towing through rain or road grime.

Straightforward Installation: Bolt-On Design with No Welding Required

Installing this hitch doesn’t require a lift or specialized tools. It bolts directly onto the frame using the included complete hardware kit and installation instructions. There’s no welding needed—just line it up, torque it down, and you’re ready to tow. This bolt-on design makes it an easy DIY project for a driveway install while still giving you a secure, factory-level fit that stays in place no matter what you’re hauling.

Unfortunately I called the manufacturer to replace the hitch. The bolt that came with the hitch did not screw into the receiver. They are sending a replacement hitch that they will inspect before shipping.
Also there was no invoice in the package.

by:

I've pulled a few trailers since installation and I could not be happier with this hitch.

by:

The custom fit Curt Trailer Hitch 2" Receiver for my 2007 Dodge Dakota is a really well-made piece of equipment. It fit exactly like it should have for a custom piece. It took me 30 minutes to install it because I had to run down to AutoZone to get a 1/2" hex socket. Actual installation time was 5 minutes. Curt has done an impressive job with this hitch. All the installation support on etrailer was very well done.

by:

Good packaging, fast delivery and clear instructions. It fit perfectly and took 10 minutes to install. I wanted to replace the bumper ball from the previous owner with a receiver hitch for a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider (Dakota clone). Thank you Curt for a great product and etrailer for great service.

by:

Excellent product, I did a little prep before installing. I put a small amount of axcel grease. on the threads of the hitch and ran the hex head bolt in and out, then some grease on the other bolts. Installation time took me about ten minutes. No complaints! Very happy. Very easy. Thanks for a great product.

by:

So some product.. delivery was fast and really easy to install.

by:

your price was 3 times lower for the same one at the dodge dealership was this product bolted right up to my truck with no problem. Twenty minutes later I was towing my boat down to the water and went fishing. I didn't catch any fish but I did hook my boat onto a GREAT TRAILER HITCH

by:

I received my trailer hitch kit and wiring assembly within 3 days which is awesome for being out here in Hawaii. It was so easy to install that the entire project took less than 15 minutes. Thanks so much for an awesome product and super fast shipping

by:

The hitch was easy to install. Makes a more solid towing area than just the bumper. But my truck is not up for pulling heavy trailers. But it is handy for smaller trailers or my car hauler when empty ,Or small camper trailers.
It is nice to just change the receiver to which ever one I need for that day or times use. It does suit my needs for this truck.

by:

Great product! Quick shipping! It took longer to find the tools than to put it on! Can not wait to take my camper out!

by:

Great communication. Fast and courteous service. The hitch receiver is perfect, super easy to install but need an unusual 12mm Hex wrench.

by:

45 mins after it arrived by ups hitch and wiring were installed. Real easy install. Not to awful happy about the goofy Allen head bolt that goes through the bumper but it works I guess . Not much of a surface to hold its torque but we'll see after some use.

Very heavy rust hear at the beach powder coating was not the way to protect this item. A Good primer and epoxy paint would be much better.

by:

Have not yet pulled with hitch, however installation was simple and straightforward.

by:

I received fast service and item was as described. I will use the hitch along with a bed extender to carry my 12" kayak in the bed of my p/u. Thank you very much!

It still works fine, heavy duty, high quality!

by:

Previous posts complained that 3/4” ball hitch flange bolt was hard to thread in to receiver. As a precaution I chased the threads of hitch with bolt prior to mounting. I found it easier to fasten down loosely bumper bolt and then put in frame bolts.

One year and still perfect!

by:

This is the third hitch I've purchased from etrailer and as with the others this installed with a minimum of time spent with great results. If I would have one suggestion it would be to Curt to send the hitch with a standard Class 8 3/4-10 hex bolt instead of a flat head as where the hitch mounts there is no taper to match the bolt. Other than that it was a class act.

been working great no problems

by:

This style of hitch was very easy to install, because it bolts right to the frame and to the rear bumper. And it is class III--hard to believe! That was why I bought it. This can be easily installed by the individual with a little common sense, except for one significant problem: the torque that is required for all of the bolts. I believe that although I torqued the center bumper bolt to about 260 foot pounds, and the frame bolts to about 185 foot pounds, the hitch will stay in place. The manufacturer calls for torques that are much higher. The average repair shop will not have a torque wrench that is adequate for the torque required by the manufacturer. I took mine to two different repair shops, and neither had a torque wrench that would go that high. Still I've used the hitch a few times, and it has performed well.

by:

This product came super fast and was better then I expected!!! Installation was fast and simple. Very happy with the product and company

by:

Fits like a glove. Got it paired with my wiring harness.

by:

Top bolt threads a little difficult but. Greased it and then scrwwee down ok . fit perfectly. Great deal along with the tail light wiring. Easy to install

by:

Im impressed with how easy this install was, but you will definitely need the correct size torque wrench and not every one has that big of a torque wrench

by:

This is way better than paying $342.56 for the dealership to put one on for me when i bought my 2011 dakota 4X4. I timed myself when installing this hitch. just under 9 minutes looks great, works good too. Wou will not be displeased with this buy!!!

by:

Great hitch! It shipped on time and installation was very easy, took less than 5 minutes. I will use it to tow a 4X8 trailer. Very straightforward and simple process. Etrailer website made it easy for me to make sure the hitch fit my vehicle (2006 Dodge Dakota).

by:

This was a very smooth transaction. Communication was excellent at every step of the process. Installation was very easy, taking less than 45 minutes start to finish. Thanks, Joshua B, for the excellent follow through.

The Curt Trailer Hitch, item # 13229, is designed and tested for fit and capacity, likewise the Dodge Dakota and Mitsubishi Raider have their own towing capacity ratings for the vehicle and bumper. In your case the vehicle attachment point is rated for 2,000 pounds capacity so that will be the maximum rating for your vehicle with the bumper mounted option. You always have to go by the lowest rated item in the towing system for maximum capacity. If you need more capacity than the bumper...
