Do Lift Brackets on Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System have to be Lubricated

Question:

I have a couple questions with parts 1. On the first page of the instructions it states to keep lift brackets clean and lubricated. The instructions are not clear on this. a Are the spring bar supports what they are referring? b Then why not call them the same thing? c What lubricant is recommend? If this is what they are referring to, I thought lubricant was not recommended for this locations. 2. The instructions state to grease the inner and out ball bearings and to grease the zerk fittings. a Which type of grease is recommended? b Is marine grade grease okay?

I will be happy to answer your questions on the Curt TruTrack weight distribution system # C17500.

They are referring to the brackets that mount on the trailer and hold the spring bars. Lift bracket is a term more associated with chain hanging systems so I am not sure why they worded it that way. They are called lift brackets on those systems because you have to place the ends of the bars on them and then use a special handle to lift them up to put tension on the bars. The brackets in this system are similar but you aren't lifting the bracket; just lifting the spring bars onto the brackets.

There are no moving parts on those brackets so really they just need to be clean. Lubricating them would make the sway control feature less effective. But if you used anything I recommend a spray version of white lithium grease. Just a squirt at each bracket.

You could use marine grease. As long as you consistently use the same grease or one that is compatible with the grease you previously used it will be fine. Not all greases are compatible, see link.
