How much will I need for a stock 2017 3/4 ton GMC diesel hooking up to a travel trailer? Also, how more does the 2 1/2inch shank weight compared to a 2inch shank?

To determine how much of a Rise or Drop you would need so that your towing setup is level you will need to compare some measurements.
Start off my parking your 2017 GMC on level ground and then measuring from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. You will then want to park your trailer on level ground and measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the top of your receiver opening is taller (which is most likely the case) you will want to subtract the height of the coupler and use the Weight Distribution (WD) shank in the drop position. If your coupler head is taller then you will want to subtract the height of the top of your receiver opening and use the WD shank in the rise position. Either way you will want to adjust the head of your WD system so that it sits closest to the difference between those 2 measurements. I have attached a helpful article that goes into a little more detail.
The Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank for a 2-1/2 inch Hitch # EQ90-02-4700 weighs just under 27 lbs while the 2 inch version, part # EQ90-02-4100, weighs slightly over 21 lbs.
