I have Kaper II model 1T-L6R bulb brake/tail/turn in standard trailer cut-outs now... can I simply upgrade with the STL72RB and use the existing plug?

You can upgrade and use the existing plug if the Kaper lights are the same size as the Optronics Sealed, 6-1/2 Inch Oval LED Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light, part # STL72RB and will use a three prong plug like the Optronics Straight 3-Wire Pigtail for Sealed Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Lights, part # A45PB.
The Optronics light will also use the Optronics Rubber Grommet for 6-1/2 Inch Oval Trailer Tail Lights, part # A70GB, for a flush mounted application.
