How to Carry Cargo on 2016 Buick Encore
Question:
I am moving cross country Las Vegas to East Coast and I am considering purchasing an enclosed trailer 5x8 about 1000 lbs I would be carrying around 800 lbs prob more like 500 of mostly boxes, a freezer and a dining table that is wood. Do you think an encore could handle pulling that? I would have to go through some mountain passes. If so, what hitch would be the best to purchase?

Helpful Expert Reply:
I reviewed an online edition of the owner's manual for your 2016 Buick Encore and on page 186 GM indicates this car is not intended to tow any trailer. I do not recommend going against this advice.
The hitch I do recommend, which would allow use of a cargo carrier like # C18145, is the Draw-Tite Class I hitch # C11527. This hitch has a 200-lb tongue weight rating so after you deduct the carrier's 29-lb weight you would still be able to load up to 171-lbs of cargo. I know this 171 lbs is not enough for what you need, but maybe it will help.
