Troubleshooting an Electric Jack that keeps Blowing Fuses
Updated 05/17/2017 | Published 05/15/2017 >
Question:
This jack is brand new on my new trailer. worked great at the dealer and at home. Worked great on camping trip and back. last week I went to adjust my hitch height and jack blew the fuse. put a new one in it and 2-3 seconds in the down direction blew a fuse. replaced fuse again and blew fuse. what could be the problem? it is the mid range of function so its not bottoming out or going too high.

Sounds like there is an electrical short somewhere in the jack circuit. Inspect the trailer jack wiring to see if there is any loose connections and frayed or damaged wiring that could be shorting causing the fuse to blow.
Also, if the jack has been extended too far, then trying to move the jack back into position will draw more amps then normal operation. This would cause the fuse to pop. Since you stated that you got the jack to start to retract again, then internal damage to the unit is probably unlikely. If the wiring checks out, then replace the fuse and try to get the jack to its final retracted setting. Then try to raise the jack again to see if the fuse will or will not blow.
