Expert Reply:

Non-ducted AC units just blow the air out of the bottom part of the unit through the lower vent system. While the ducted style are what you would use in a motorhome with multiple ducts in the ceiling. The duct style is designed to match up with the ducts of an RV that distribute air throughout.

Some RVs were designed with duct work for AC units which allows them to have vents through the interior of the RV. This allows for a better distribution of the cooler air and also typically is a bit quieter. Since not all RVs were made with this feature but people still want to have AC in those RVs non-ducted applications were made to make the best of the situation.
