How Much Clearance Is Lost When Switching To A Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box
Published 06/05/2024 >
Question:
Hello, I'm considering the same swap to a Gooseneck hitch because of the ride. Do we know how much closer the pin will move to the truck? Thanks

Hey Bill,
The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR has an 18.08" measurement from the center of the coupler to the center of the first bolt holes. When switching to a gooseneck pin box from the Lippert Turning Point you'd be losing the extra 22" of clearance it provides by moving the pivot point back to the trailer nose. You can use an offset ball to gain a bit more clearance though. If you can tell me the brand of your gooseneck hitch I can pick out some compatible offset hitch ball options.

Thanks Kevin, I putting the Curt Ball hitch in on my existing 5th wheel rails. I can’t find the model number but it’s the “drop in” gooseneck ball in place of the 5th wheel hitch
