For your 2000 GMC Sonoma 4x4, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75085 is a confirmed fit for the Sportside with non-towing bumper as well as the Factory Step bumper. It is not a fit for the ZR2 models or the Factory Roll Pan bumper. It will fit on trucks without a factory bumper as well. There is no difference in fit for a 2WD version or a 4x4.
This hitch has a black powder coat finish over an e-coat base. It is a sturdy square tube design. The cross tube is concealed when installed for a clean look with good ground clearance.
If you'll be towing with this hitch, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118359. This wiring harness connects to factory connections that can be found at the rear of your truck along the inside of the driver's side frame rail.
For a ball mount, I recommend the Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount # C45900. This has a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball that is adjustable. I recommend the Curt Lock Set for Adjustable Channel-Style Mounts # C23556 if you'd like to further secure your investment.
