On a trailer hitch receiver, concealed means the crosstube does not show at the rear of the truck, just the receiver does; while exposed means the crosstube and the receiver show.
A lot of people really like the concealed crosstube because it keeps the look of their truck intact, but that's the only difference. For your 1999 Chevy S-10 with a factory step bumper you can choose from a hitch with either a concealed or visible crosstube, but if it were me, I'd go with the concealed option:
- Concealed Crosstube: Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75085
- Visible Crosstube: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13132
