Recommended Trailer Tires to Replace 235/75R15 Tires

Hello, I am a new owner of a used pop up camper. It looks to be in great condition so far. It came with aggressive tires which are in great shape, however, I plan on putting some miles on the pop up this summer. The spare is brand new as well. So here we go: Should I consider putting on highway tires for improved gas mileage and ease of towing? If so, what size should I consider? Currently the tires are lt 235/75 r 15. If you would suggest new tires should I get 3 or 2? I assume the tire size would be a point of consideration, but I am mainly concerned with the trailer being imbalanced should I encounter a flat along the way.

It looks like the previous owner of the trailer had vehicle tires installed since there are very few trailer tire manufacturers that carry a 235/75R15 size. Even though it might work for a while, trailer tires are always better to use for trailer applications.

Trailer tires have a stronger sidewall and can be identified by the letters ST before the tire size. For example, the Taskmaster Provider # A225R645WM has a tire size of ST225/75R15. Since people are not meant to ride in the back of a trailer while it is being towed, trailer tires can use a tire that doesn't necessarily have the smoothest ride, so that they can better support the weight of the trailer.

The Provider, part # A225R645WM, uses 15-inch wheels like the ones that you currently have on your trailer. This tire/wheel combo uses a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, so you will want to measure your bolt pattern to make sure it is compatible (see attached helpful article). The tire itself has a max load capacity of 2,540 lbs at 65 psi (5,080 lbs when using 2 of these tires) and will work great on the highway as the max speed rating is M, which means 81 mph.

The tire size is slightly smaller than what you have now, but these tires are better suited for supporting a trailer while traveling down the highway. I do recommend replacing all 3 since you will want your trailer to sit level even when you are using the spare.

If the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern will not work, just let me know what bolt pattern you have and I can make some recommendations for you.

The above mentioned combos are just for a single tire/wheel. If you need 4 you will need to order a quantity of 4.

@ChrisR I purchased a new Winnebago Travel Trailer on Model 1808FBS that came standard with ST235R75/15 off road tires Load range C - speed range to 70 I want to take these tires off and go all season Hiway. so I would have to go with 225R75/15 ? the rims are 15x6 5 bolts Goodyear makes Endurance a load range D or E Hiway tires that would be a little stiffer on bumps but better strong wise for loads and on gas milage. The tires I have on now look basically like snow tires and even have stud holes and they are ST trailer tires.

@TomG It looks like all of the ST235/75R15 tires we offer are all off-road so you would need to switch down to 225/75R15 to get some highway tires. We don't currently offer Goodyear Endurance tires but our closest match in ratings and quality would be the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # AM10303. It has double steel belts and full nylon plies combine for superior function and long tire life and the tread design provides excellent traction in both wet and dry conditions.

I was able to find the 126003 hub and was able to determine that it is a 3,500 lb hub/drum with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern just like the #AKHD-545-35-K that you referenced. This hub will work as a replacement for your Lippert.
