Solution for Hitch Install Where Weldnut of Vehicle Frame Gets Stripped
Published 03/16/2017 >
Question:
Hello... I just installed this Curt 11002 hitch on my 2010 Honda crosstour. Unfortunately I had some trouble getting one of the bolts in and think I may have stripped the bolt or the weld nut that is part of the frame. I guess my question is do I absolutely need that nut in? I got all 5 of the other bolts in and they are all at the recommended torque. This particular bolt is the smallest bolt and has the lowest torque setting. Furthermore I dont intend to use the hitch for towing, just for a bike rack. Id appreciate your thoughts!

I have to recommend you find a way to use that mounting point on your hitch. What you will need to do is find the next size up thread tap and tap the threads to the next size up and source a bolt with the matching threads so that you can secure the hitch with all of the intended holes.
If you do not use all of the mounting points of the hitch the warranty would be voided regardless of how you plan to use the hitch.
