Question:
I am looking to flat tow a 2015 Chevy Sonic behind our 2016 Newmar Bay Star 3401. Could you help me identify all of the items I will need for this project? Many thanks,

To flat tow a vehicle behind a motor home you will need 5 items: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
For base plates for your 2015 Chevy Sonic you can use Blue Ox base plates # BX1703. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.
For a compatible tow bar that comes with safety cables I recommend the Alpha, # BX7380. I have included a link to a video review featuring this tow bar for you.
For lighting our installers prefer the bulb and socket kit # RM-155 because it is among the easiest to install and because it bypasses the vehicle wiring. It also looks like a fuse has to be pulled to flat tow the Sonic. Check the owners manual to confirm. To make this as easy as flipping a switch you can use fuse bypass # RM76511.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
