The Curt 2 Inch Class III Hitch, # 13707, On A 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Seems Too Low To The Ground
Updated 09/17/2010 | Published 09/16/2010 >
Question:
I purchased this part (13707) for my 1999 Crown Victoria and the receiver seems to low to the ground. In fact, the hitch is some 9 inches from the ground on an empty gas tank. Do you have any suggestions on this? Is this simply a problem with this car?

The Curt 2 Inch Class III Hitch, # 13707, is the correct hitch for your 1999 Ford Crown Victoria. It should measure 10-7/8 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. If you are measuring to the bottom of the hitch it will be about 8-7/8 inches since it is a 2 inch hitch. This is not a problem with that vehicle.
If towing, you do need to use the recommended ball mount which is Draw-Tite Mount, # 2753. This ball mount when used in the 2-3/4 inch rise position will put the hitch ball at 13-5/8 inches from the ground. That should work for towing a trailer with your vehicle.
If the trailer coupler height is much higher than the 13-5/8 inch measurement that would mean that the trailer should not be towed with your vehicle.
I am sending a link to information on measuring hitch height and coupler height.
