High Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500

Published 06/28/2016

Question:

Hi, I have a 2006 1500HD with the stock HD trailer hitch. It has bent a little over time and now the hitch points more towards the sky. I pull a Jayco 2007 27BH. It is 4950 dry with about a 750 tongue weight I believe. I have 2 full 40 pound propane tanks up front plus 2 group 24 batteries so I am thinking 1000 pound max tongue weight. I use an equalizing hitch and the truck and trailer are all level when towing. What hitch do you recommend? I want heavier duty than stock. How does the stock electrical plug hook up?

The highest capacity 2 inch hitch we offer for your 2006 Chevy Silverado is the Curt Hitch part # C15323 which has a 2,400 lb tongue weight capacity and 17,000 lb total trailer weight capacity.

I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

Your stock trailer wiring setup connects to a harness behind the rear bumper and would not be affected by the hitch. It installs by twisting into the socket.
