I checked the maximum towing capacity for your 2009 Chevy Cobalt and it was 1,000 lbs. You might want to check your owners manual or with the Chevy dealer to verify that 1,000 lbs. is the correct maximum towing capacity of your 2009 Chevy Cobalt.

The Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # 11430, will fit on your 2009 Chevy Cobalt, as long as it is not a SS model. This hitch has a 2,000 lbs. towing weight capacity and a 200 lbs. tongue weight capacity. It is a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. The ball mount, pin and clip are included.

The Curt hitch will work on your vehicle but will be limited to the 1,000 lbs. maximum towing capacity of your vehicle.

You will need to take the weight of your trailer plus the weight of the load on the trailer and make sure it does not exceed the 1,000 lbs. towing capacity of your vehicle.

I looked up an Artic Cat 500 ATV and it gave an estimated dry weight of 644 lbs. So if your trailer and other contents weighs less than 350 lbs. you should be able to tow your trailer.

The trailer wiring harness you would need is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, # 118407. This will plug into the taillights on your 2009 Chevy Cobalt. This harness will give you a 4-flat trailer connector at the rear of your vehicle.

To use a cargo carrier like the Curt 20x48 Cargo Carrier, part # C18145 on your 2009 Chevy Cobalt with the Curt hitch you will be limited to 100 lbs. tongue weight. So after the weight of the cargo carrier (29 lbs.) you will have only 71 lbs. or less to carry on the carrier. I am including a link to a video review on the Curt cargo carrier.
