How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2010 Chevy Cobalt

Alright, today on this 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, we are going to install part number 118407 from Tow Ready. This is their T-One wiring connector. What this part does is it fits behind the taillight. First off, we will go ahead and take off the carpet itself, that is above the spare tire. Get that out of the way. Then you can start working on the side panels. We will unscrew these anchor points. And this is going to be our first connection point right here. Let us go over to the other side and repeat the same process on the passenger side. 0:35

Alright, while we are over here on the passenger side, let us go ahead and start with this side. There is a little tab on the outside here. Just pull it up and it should come apart. This is the part that you want to pull up gently on. Alright, we will start the T-connector. We are going to start with the side with the green wire. Plug that into place. And the wire harness for your vehicle will plug into the other half. And then just go ahead and put our carpet back into place. And we are going to put our anchor points back into place. And now take our green wire and route it across the threshold here, past the battery and on to the other side. 1:20

Alright, on the driver side, it is a little easier to see. We are going to do the same thing. Pull out this tab. Pull it apart. Install the T-One harness in the same spot. And then the wiring harness from the vehicle plugs into the T-One harness. Those connect together. And the last thing that we have to take care of is the ground wire and we will find a piece of sheet metal on the inside here. And we will just attach it to that. Alright, we will stretch out our T-One harness wire. We are just going to lay it into our spare tire tray for now. We will put our carpeting back in place. Let us go ahead and tape everything up and then we will just bundle up our access wire. And then we will just tuck it behind the carpeting. 2:17

With our car back to normal, we can show you where it is going to hide at. You can just hide it underneath the carpet, out of the way, no problem. When you need to use it, just pull it out to the length you need and you can go ahead and shut the hatch on it. Just stay away from the latch and shut the trunk. And your vehicle is ready for towing. Alright, and once you have your install complete, what you want to do is you want to check it with a test light. We are going to ground our test light to the white wire and go ahead and check our first function. That will be our running lights. Okay, we are good there. Now, go ahead and try the left turn. Okay and then the right turn. Okay, and then we will hit our brakes. And that green and yellow should be constant. And we are good to go so we know this installation is working and we can try it on our trailer next. Alright, and that finishes our install of part number 118407 from Tow Ready.
