Aftermarket Brake Controller Compatibility for a 2015 Ram 1500
Published 02/09/2016 >
Question:
I asked a question earlier about a prodigy P3 brake controller being installed on my truck. The truck did not come with a brake controller hence needing to add one. I was instructed by the RV sales center that if I installed an aftermarket brake controller I would still have to take the truck to dodge for it to work. Doesnt make sense to me. I dont need it to display on the dark like the factory one would I just need it to work by itself as intended.

If you do not have a factory brake controller, then you do not need to take the truck to a Dodge dealer. To install an aftermarket brake controller, you just need a brake controller that is compatible the 2015 Ram trucks like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3, # 90195, the P2, # 90885, or the Primus IQ, # TK90160, and the correct brake controller wiring adapter like part # 3024-P for Tekonsha brake controllers.
The factory brake controller port is under the dash to the right of the steering column taped to another harness. Just mount the brake controller, plug-in the harness and you are ready to set the brake intensity with your trailer.
Keep in mind, not all brake controllers are compatible with the new low voltage brake light wiring that Dodge started using in 2013. I strongly recommend using the P3 that you are looking at because of the full digital display. If the brake controller senses a problem, you won't have to decipher codes to find the problem.
