Question:

What is the difference between the 7 terminal and 10 terminal trailer connection junction box,furthermore I will like to know if these terminals are marked to be able to know which wire goes to which terminal.I really want to understand the concept because I am trying to change the connectors on my truck and the trailer.I have done that of the truck but I am trying to work on the trailer side,the connections are hard wired and I am trying to install a junction box to make a neat and proper connection.Please if that can be possible I need you guys to send me the yellow marker that you use to mark before drilling holes on a surface.Importantly due to your expertise in this area I will like you to help identify the best way to get trailer wire connection.Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

The biggest difference between the two junction boxes that you referenced is the number of terminals. The # 38656 has 7 and the # PK52248 has 10.

For a 7-way I would recommend you go with the 7 pin box part # 38656 since there would be no need for more circuits than you have.

We don't carry the yellow marker (known as paint markers, available at local hardware stores), that you see in the attached video, but any marker or even a pencil could be used as long as it is visible to you. We used the yellow one to make it easier to see in the video.

For a 7-way to wire to one side of the box the part # H20046 would be a great option as it is an 8 foot long plug and lead that would work well.

The terminals of the # 38656 are marked with raised letters so that you can easily see what circuit goes where.

Be sure to wire the circuits by function and not color since colors can vary.
